What Is SHMP Used For?
SHMP (sodium hexametaphosphate, (NaPO3)6) is a glassy polyphosphate known for strong sequestering and dispersing power. A small dose can control a comparatively large amount of calcium and magnesium, which makes SHMP a standard chemical in water treatment and many industrial processes. Theone Chemical supplies SHMP technical grade and SHMP food grade.
Water Treatment
The classic use of SHMP is preventing scale. In cooling systems, boilers and general process water, it keeps hardness salts dispersed and helps inhibit corrosion of metal surfaces. It is also used in municipal and industrial water softening support roles.
Detergents and Cleaning
In cleaning formulations, SHMP softens water and improves the efficiency of surfactants, and it helps prevent mineral deposits on glass and equipment. It is used in some powder and liquid cleaners and in institutional washing products. Buyers comparing builders can read our article STPP vs SHMP for the functional differences.
Industrial Processing
SHMP is a widely used deflocculant in ceramics — it thins clay slips at low dosage — and a dispersant in coatings, pigments and paper production. Other industrial uses include textile processing, oil drilling fluids and metal treatment, wherever controlled dispersion of minerals is needed.
Food Grade SHMP
Food grade SHMP serves as a quality improver, water-retention aid and sequestrant in food processing, including meat, seafood, dairy and canned products, under food additive standards with controlled heavy metals and fluoride.
Choosing SHMP
Technical grade is normally specified by total phosphate as P2O5 (typically 68%) and inactive phosphate content; food grade adds impurity limits and certification. Tell us your application and target specification and we will match the grade and quote.
