What Is TSPP Used For?

TSPP (tetrasodium pyrophosphate, Na4P2O7) is an alkaline phosphate used as a builder, dispersant and emulsifier across cleaning and food applications. It is supplied as a white powder in both technical grade and food grade.

Detergents and Cleaning

In cleaning formulations, TSPP provides alkalinity, softens water and helps disperse and suspend soil. It is used in heavy-duty cleaners, dishwashing products, metal cleaning and degreasing formulations, and as a supporting builder alongside other phosphates such as STPP.

Water Treatment and Industrial Uses

Technical grade TSPP is used in water treatment, as a dispersant in ceramics and pigments, in textile and paper processing, and in drilling fluids, where its dispersing and sequestering behavior helps control minerals and keep solids suspended.

Food Grade TSPP

Food grade TSPP is used as an emulsifier and quality improver in processed meat and seafood, canned products and some dairy and bakery applications, under food additive standards (GB 25557) with controlled arsenic, lead and fluoride.

Choosing TSPP

Technical grade is typically specified by Na4P2O7 content (≥96.5%), P2O5 and pH; food grade adds impurity limits and certification. Tell us your application and target specification for a matched quotation.
